Pittsburgh LED Light Solutions Giving Back To The City

Being green is definitely its own reward. But in the city of Pittsburgh, keeping things green at your company can win you major points as well. For the last few years, Sustainable Pittsburgh has sponsored an initiative called the Pittsburgh Green Workplace Challenge. The Challenge lends credibility to the environmental activities of its participants via third party verification. Every sustainable action wins a certain amount of points. Each company is classified according to size and a winner is declared in each classification.

In the past, the competition was limited to for-profit entities. Community organizations such as nonprofits and colleges/universities are now included in the competition. In light of this new development, the Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh have entered the competition. And they've done quite well. The CMoP was awarded a silver medal in its category (Medium Nonprofit).

No detail was deemed too small; the Museums fine-tuned their recycling processes. Something as simple as photocopying was switched from one to two-sided copies, cutting usage in half. Much of the reduction the Museums' consumption can be chalked up to the installation of residential LED Lights. Though, LEDs in a museum setting has been a hard sell. Museums go to painful lengths to display their works in proper lighting, and so since its invention, LED lighting quality has been a concern. But now technological advancements are bringing more and more curators to consider using LEDs. In addition, studies have come out showing that there are no known negative effects from commercial LED lighting fixtures.

LED Lighting for Outdoors

Pittsburgh is positioning itself as a leader in green technologies. Efforts such as the Pittsburgh Green Workplace Challenge are spearheading this upward ecological trend. Above all this hangs the fact that numerous green businesses have existed in Pittsburgh for half a decade or more. Take for example, Laface and Mcgovern, a Pittsburgh light manufacturer that is responsible for many of the most iconic Pittsburgh LED lighting installations.

Obviously, we should do what is ecologically-responsible, but it makes the prospect that much easier when there are accolades to be won. These types of actions beautify cities inside and out. And Pittsburgh just won't stop getting prettier.
